April 21, 2022 - The Teeth

Forty & fabulous! I hit my fourth decade last November so I'm smack dab in the first year of my forties. To celebrate I went and got my eyebrows tattooed on (best decision ever! Hypothyroidism sucks, more so when it takes your eyebrows away). LOVE IT. And I decided that perhaps I should also work on getting my crossbite adjusted so my chomp was more comfy and I could use the trays as a bite guard that my dentist wanted me to get. Ugh. Sucks. I seemed to have forgot that I hate getting my teeth worked on and I can't leave anything alone, so in the first month I've already popped off 3 of the little pips that hold the trays in. So of course, this gal can't get enough of doctors appointments (medical professionals LOVE me - I provide job security!) and went this morning to re-adhere the pips. Occurred to me to ask the ortho if indeed I were diagnosed with the big scary C word, would any kind of treatments, tests, scans, or any other considerations that would impact the whole rearrangement of my luxury bones? (And to be clear, my teeth are pretty darn straight as I did have braces as a kid, but my lower teeth have shifted and my bite has gotten more uncomfortable so that's the reason, but vanity of having even straighter teeth is not unappreciated).

Of course. Cancer isn't a thing that you just let hang out and do it's own thing, it has to upset everything in it's path. So the ortho & I discussed the options and he told me that until the PET scan, the best policy is going to be to pause treatment until we know more. And, bless his generous heart, he even mentioned a refund if we couldn't/shouldn't/wouldn't want to or be able to continue. I am appreciative of the kindness and care of my healthcare team for sure. I just wish an expensive and lengthy project wasn't in jeopardy. Anything to get through this, but shucks right?

I've also wanted to highlight my time spent in medical/health care appointments these last two months.

  • March 3-7: San Diego trip

  • March 4: Psych video appt to review mental health meds

  • March 9: Carter's endocrinologist appt (Dan & I swap depending on schedules)

  • March 11: Walk in appointment to check for bladder infection/ear infection (cleared for both, no sign of bacteria or infection)

  • March 12: Concert night, ER visit, Abdomen CT

  • March 15: Follow up in-person visit with PCP. Also Nick's 16th birthday

  • March 16: Standing counseling appointment

  • March 28: Orthodontist Appointment to get Invisalign put on

  • April 8: Eyebrow final session (did microblading on top of power brows)

  • April 11: Ultrasound of my lady bits looking for anything abnormal (nothing, this one was normal). Also, car died in the parking lot and kid had to come jump the car. Had to pick up Nick from dental filling.

  • April 12: CT Scan of chest

  • April 13: Standing counseling appointment (thank god we do regular appointments)

  • April 14: Lab work from endo - 7 VIALS of blood.

  • April 14- 18: Freak out

  • April 18: Video visit with doc to review CT scan results

  • April 19: Lab work: CBC count

  • April 20: Specialist follow up with ENT for that right ear pain, nothing outstanding except same-o same-o. She would recommend an ear MRI, except she did say that she would recommend not doing it for now because I have bigger medical issues to take care of. 0_o.

  • April 21: Ortho visit to re-attach pips and have the dreaded reality conversation.

All that in addition to my regularly scheduled activities. There was camping, travelling, work, boys' spring break, a memorial service for Dan's grandfather...

It's been busy, that's for sure!
